Unlike some people who aren’t early birds, I have always been a morning person! I like being able to wake up and make sure my day is started right. Having a routine or some sort of consistent layout like that gets the day going with a productive and reliable start. Today I’m sharing with you my everyday Morning Routine that I have stuck with for ages; it works for me and it checks some important points off my list right at the start of the day!
The first thing I always do in the morning before even leaving my room is to MAKE MY BED. It helps me to know that my mess of a bed is made up, and I don’t have to look at a sloppy pile for the rest of the day. There is the whole notion that making your bed everyday gets productivity flowing early and sets you up for a better mood throughout the day! I like to believe that is accurate, I however make my bed more for neatness.
One more thing I like to do before leaving my bedroom in the morning is STRETCHING. My main daily stretch is for my lower back; to do this I actually have to stretch my hamstrings. Last winter I had an extremely sore lower back and I couldn’t figure out what the problem was until my physiotherapist figured out it was my incredibly tight hamstrings were causing my lower back pain. For this I lie down in a doorway and stretch my leg straight up the wall of the door frame. I keep it there for about 2 minutes then switch legs; it feels great and really helps to wake me up.
Next I move on to one of my favourite parts of my morning routine which is SKINCARE. I have become quite the skincare junkie in more recent years so I make sure I stick to my skincare routine religiously. I start with my Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser to wash my face from whatever may have transferred from my pillow to my face during the night. I’m not picky when it comes to my toner so I just switch it up to whats most easily available to me. Right now I’m using Dickinson’s Witch Hazel to rid of the leftover dirt on my face. I follow that up with my Sunday Riley UFO Drying Oil; I rub and pat this around my t-zone or wherever I might have any blemishes. Lastly I mix my Sunday Riley CEO Vitamin C Moisturizer and my COOLA SPF 30 Face Matte Tint. SPF and Vitamin C are two very important things to make sure you have in your skincare routine! If you haven’t noticed I’m a bit of a Sunday Riley fan…you can read up on a full review of her products here.
Following my skincare routine I like to head to the kitchen and grab a quick glass of LEMON WATER. I’m most thirsty before I go to bed and when I wake up, so why not stay hydrated with a fresh zip of citrus! The benefits of drinking lemon water first thing in the morning includes aiding in digestive health and getting your stomach ready for whatever you ingest throughout the day. It’s also a detoxifier which is a bonus!
Now for Diesel’s favourite part of the morning routine, TAKING THE DOG OUT FOR A WALK. Even though going out for a walk first thing in the morning in these recent outside temps are a bit deterring, I’ve come to really love this step in my routine. Going for a walk right when you wake up is a great way to start your day; with some fresh air and exercise! It’s a great way for Diesel to start his day as well before we head back in to enjoy some breakfast!
