The Ordinary Skincare Review

Sydney has previously shared her Sunday Riley skincare staples on the blog, and now it’s my turn! I do believe that skincare is an investment. You use whatever works for you, even if it’s a pricey little bugger. However when I came across The Ordinary, I knew I needed to give it a shot. I think what really drew me in at first WAS the price and how cheap all of the products were! I pretty much thought it was too good to be true. I knew of others that were using the brand so I thought I might as well try it out for myself!

Now let me start off by saying it can be a little difficult right off the bat to find the right product you’re looking for. What I mean by that is that the products sound like something straight out of a chemistry textbook! All of the names are super scientific sounding so I obviously went straight to looking at the product descriptions and reviews.

They definitely are very detailed in their product descriptions to inform what skin issues it can target, when to use it in your routine, if it conflicts with any of their other products, and what time of day is best to use it. If you’re completely lost they even share example regimens with certain products and when to use them for issues like aging, pigmentation, dehydration, texture, etc. In my case, I pretty much went off of what kinds of skincare products my friends and family were using, and went searching from there! Well after almost a year of use I’m going to share the 4 products I have used DAILY!

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% ($5.90)

This product is great for reducing the appearance of blemishes and balancing visible sebum activity. Niacinamide can also used for brightening your skin tone. I use this product morning and night and makes my skin feel super soft!

Lactic Acid 10% + HA ($6.70)

Next up is this Lactic Acid treatment which is great for exfoliation. I really wanted a product that would exfoliate my skin but without any harsh ingredients. For example, back in the day I used to use the St. Ives Apricot Scrub and later on was using my Olay Spin Brush. It wasn’t until right before I started using The Ordinary when I was realizing how hard these products can actually be on my skin, and therefore wanted to find a more gentle exfoliant. I use this product every other night.

Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane ($9.60)

Right before I started using these products I thought that I should really start to think about adding anti-aging products into my routine. It’s never too late to start! So that’s why I picked up this product in particular. Now because I had never actually used a Retinol previously I chose a product with a lower dose, as opposed to one with very high strength (which they do offer as well). I wanted my skin to be able to be to accustom to such a product before I went straight in with a high dosage. Perhaps when I repurchase I will slowly go up in strength! I use this product every other night, on the nights when I’m not using the Lactic Acid.

100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil ($9.90)

Last but certainly not least, I give you my nighttime moisturizer. To be honest it took me a loooooooong time to want to incorporate an oil into my skincare routine considering I already have oily skin, but holy crap am I ever glad I did. It leaves my face feeling super soft and I wake up with plump glowing skin!

So pretty much the best thing about these products are the price, considering this whole routine only costs me a little over $30, and the fact that for each product a little goes a loooooong way! Additionally, the customer service this company offers is outstanding. If you have absolutely any question regarding a product, or how it’s used, or when to use it, just shoot them an email and they will happily answer any of those! One other thing I will mention is that because a lot of these products will make you more sensitive to UV exposure, it’s pretty much vital to be including an SPF into your daily routine, even though we should all be doing that anyway!! (Whoops my inner Mom is showing). All in all I have been super impressed with the quality and the results I’ve gotten from these products and will definitely continue to use and support 🙂
