4 Things to Do in Ottawa in the Winter

I’ve been to our nations capital plenty of times during my childhood to partake in the many Winter activities they have going on!

We went on a quick little trip this Family Day Weekend to Ottawa and I thought I would share the Winter adventures we got ourselves into, just in case you also find yourself in Ottawa at this chilly time of year!

Winterlude and Skating the Rideau Canal

These are the two staples of Ottawa in the Winter! Winterlude is a free annual event that takes place a couple weeks in February and consists of things like ice slides and sculptures, street performers, and of course Beaver Tails! Once you’ve partaken in the Winterlude festivities, skate along the largest naturally frozen skating rink in the world! Of course get a Beaver Tail when you do that as well, trust me, ’tis a must.

Museum Hop

Ottawa is home to a plethora of museums like Canada Aviation and Space Museum, Canadian Museum of Nature, and the Ottawa Art Gallery. There is honestly so many to choose from and we went with the Canadian War Museum because huge history nerd over here. We took our time there so we only did one museum that day, but nothing is stopping you from hopping to multiple ones!

Sports

If you’re anything like my husband then you’re a die hard Leafs fan, and if you’re anything like me then you married into the die hard Leafs fan life. If you know the Leafs then you know how friggen expensive it is to go see a game, especially a home game. We were lucky enough to have free accommodation during our stay in Ottawa, so we decided to treat ourselves to my first ever NHL game. Honestly it was pretty crazy to see the Senators home arena filled with Leafs fans, but definitely made the game a good one to watch!

Food and Craft Beer

We were lucky enough to stay near the Byward Market and the amount of restaurants to choose from is amazing! We were shown some really great spots like King Eddy, El Camino, and Continental Bagel. We are always on the search for some breweries and stopped at Mill St., Clocktower, and Lowertown. Not going to lie we may have stopped into some of these places just to escape the cold, but literally would go back just to try more restaurants. Oh and we obviously had to find the good donuts, and SuzyQ did not disappoint.

Check out our mini vlog below to see it all for yourself!
