We are beyond thankful for the time we can spend with family.

It is always important; however, to acknowledge the origins of this holiday rooted in colonization.

Today is the first National Day For Truth and Reconciliation 🧡 Here are a few points to keep in mind:

• Wearing an orange shirt is a good way to show solidarity, but it’s the bare minimum. Make sure you are purchasing orange shirts from Indigenous creators, shops that donate all proceeds to the cause, and not large corporations that are capitalizing from genocide.

• Read the 94 calls to action

• Read books by Indigenous authors

• Participate in a local community event in your area

• Take time to learn and reflect upon the Indigenous peoples history in Canada and how to properly acknowledge the land you live on.

• Do not burden Indigenous people with your curiosity. It is not their job to educate you on subjects that can easily be found in a google search. These requests and inquiries can cause unnecessary relived trauma.

• Continue to support Indigenous owned business and causes everyday, not just today.

• Indigenous people have carried the burden of reconciliation for far too long, it’s up to non-Indigenous people to do their part.
